Rose is a plant used for decorative as well as perfumery. Rose nuts, rose petals are also used in jams, vinegar & wine. Botanically ,roses belong to the genus Rosacea.


Rose Species

These are the types of roses that have been used by humans for landscaping since ancient times. Below are some varieties of the main wild roses.


  •  Alba Roses

A white rose, native to central Europe, originated around 1597. It is a cross between pink catina & pink gallica species. This type has five sub leaflets, grayish green.


  • Dog Roses


The stems of these old roses are used for grafting roses.

  • Rose Arvensis


These are also known as Ayrshire roses. This rose native to Europe is also hardy in harsh environment. Leaves, 5 sub-leaflets. Flowers up to 2 inches in diameter with white single leaflets. Several other varieties of these roses have been produced.

  • Rose Galica


This species is also known as the French rose. It is a very old rose plant. These roses are said to have been cultivated in churches around 1200 BC. Short, Pink produced red & pink flowers.

New Rose Varieties

The availability of only a few shades of pink varieties, the shape of the rose bushes as required & the need to obtain flowers even in winter are the main reasons for the emergence of new rose varieties. In horticulture, new roses can be divided into five categories based on the nature, shape & growth of the plant.
